On the bright side of the house
The subject should be examined from at least two sides - usable and economical. How do you design the individual interiors so that they are both bright and economical? What type of source do you choose? How many lumens should you deliver per square metre? It turns out that in order to have an optimally lit house, you do not need to use the services of a designer. Just a few pieces of advice will make everything clear in lighting matters!
Nowadays, more and more investors are choosing to replace traditional tungsten bulbs and high-power ceiling halogens (75W, 100W) with LED-light sources. The reasons behind this choice are numerous, the most important being the many-times-longer service life and energy efficiency. Although economics are important, attention should also be focused on the optimal amount of light, its power, and colour. One of the parameters most important in the field of LED sources is luminous flux, which we express in lumens. A uniformly distributed stream of 1 lumen (lm) falling on an area of 1 m2 is referred to as one lux (lx). The question then arises: how many lumens per square metre (lux) should be provided to enjoy a comfortably illuminated space? The optimum number will depend on the room to be illuminated. The way you arrange a place for your child to study will not be the same as the reading corner in the bedroom or the dining table where the entire family gathers.
The living room - the heart of the house
The intensity of the main lighting in the living room is usually about 250 lux. However, for usability reasons you need a little more light in this type of room. A good solution to achieve this goal are downlights, which facilitate the installation of LED sources. In the case of suspended ceilings, spot luminaires can be successfully used - during installation, they have to be planned in such a way that the beams of light coming from individual points penetrate each other. The whole should be complemented by directional lighting, which will balance out the light intensity on the given working surface. But this is not the end of the possibilities. Shadow zones can be brightened by means of LED strips and profiles, which, in addition to additional lumens, will give the arrangement a unique character. For our convenience and the safety of smaller residents, you can also opt for staircase luminaires, which improve the visibility of steps on the way upstairs.
