Do you want to prepare a tasty meal in comfortable conditions? Think of extra lighting for your kitchen worktop.

duet idealny 1A traditional central ceiling-mounted lamp in the kitchen is often not enough to illuminate the kitchen work areas. Usually the kitchen furniture is put round the walls, so when preparing meals we have light behind our backs, our own body blocking its path. Additional shading of the table top is created by the shadow from hanging cabinets. That's why it's worth considering providing auxiliary lighting for the worktop.

The kitchen worktop and its lighting must form an ideal duo to ensure optimal comfort in your activities. Additional lighting depends on the colour of the worktop and the material from which it is made. The basic principle is simple - the darker the worktop, the more light is needed to illuminate it. A bright top and matching varnished furniture will diffuse light, brightening not only the work area, but also the entire room. To achieve a similar effect with dark worktops and dark furniture, you will need a stronger light source with more luxes.

duet idealny 2When choosing the lighting, it is also necessary to take into account the type of material from which the worktop is made. A LED spotlight will reflect from glass or stone tops. In order to eliminate the sight-straining effect, it is enough to use a milky cover. It is advisable to illuminate the top in such a way that no deep shadows appear on it - preferably using several evenly spaced luminaires, directed directly at its surface. If there are hanging cabinets above the work surface, we can install low-power LED luminaires underneath them. The optimum distance between the individual light points should be 40-60 cm. The use of luminaires from one series - identical in terms of design and colour - will introduce the feeling of order and calm into your kitchen.

 

A popular solution is also the use of LED strips, mounted in a profile protecting the strip from damage or dirt. The shape of the profile should be chosen in such a way that light falls only on the kitchen worktop. If it reaches further and illuminates the floor, the final effect will be unattractive. A decorative, and at the same time very functional, solution is the use of GLAX aluminum profiles with an adjustable angle of illumination up to 44˚. Thanks to the facility to rotate the lower profile, we can illuminate those places on the kitchen worktop which require special attention. In addition, the variety of profile shapes allows many design applications and interesting lighting effects to be achieved. Another possibility to illuminate the worktop is the use of halogen systems or LED luminaires on booms, mounted above the upper cabinets.

duet idealny 3When designing kitchen lighting, it is also worth taking into account the colour of the light. Very often it is a matter of individual tastes and preferences, but in general cold white light is chosen for modern interiors - although it may slightly distort other colours. Warm-coloured light has a yellowish hue, which can change the entire colour of the kitchen.

Depending on the number of corners and hanging cabinets, it might be difficult to provide uniform illumination of the work areas with a single main light source. Additional worktop lighting can serve not only as a utility but also as a decoration - skilfully arranged, it will create a unique atmosphere and style for every kitchen.
